Layer Methodology

Air Quality

A live atmospheric context layer from Environment and Climate Change Canada.

LiveCanada

Map Role

Live AQHI observations from Environment Canada for broad regional context.

What It Shows

This layer streams the Air Quality Health Index as a live raster overlay. It helps situate the ecological map in current smoke, pollution, and regional exposure conditions.

Sources

  • Environment and Climate Change Canada MSC GeoMet AQHI WMS

Method

  1. 1.Request live AQHI tiles directly from the GeoMet WMS service.
  2. 2.Render the returned rasters with partial opacity over the basemap.
  3. 3.Treat the layer as current conditions rather than a historical snapshot.

Refresh Cadence

Live service. The layer updates with the upstream GeoMet feed.

Coverage

Canadian AQHI coverage where the GeoMet service publishes current tiles.

Caveats

  • This layer depends entirely on upstream service availability and station coverage.
  • Raster tiles are best read as broad conditions, not parcel-level exposure.
