Datasets

Current ecology dataset catalog

The public Rangifer catalog now spans living systems, climate and environment, blue-green networks, and urban equity. Tree inventory remains one dataset in the stack, but this page tracks the broader ecology surface behind the platform.

Current Public Catalog

These are the ecology datasets currently published in the product. This view is driven by the same layer catalog that powers the map and methodology pages, so it reflects what is actually available now.

Urban Systems & Equity

Methodology

Coverage and Delivery

The public catalog mixes Canada-wide live layers, study-area snapshots, and derived planning overlays. Coverage is broader than the old tree page, but it still varies by area and by delivery mode.

Study-area availability

Each total includes the 3 Canada-wide layers.

13

Montreal

10 study-area layers + 3 Canada-wide layers

11

Toronto

8 study-area layers + 3 Canada-wide layers

12

Vancouver

9 study-area layers + 3 Canada-wide layers

11

Calgary

8 study-area layers + 3 Canada-wide layers

11

Edmonton

8 study-area layers + 3 Canada-wide layers

11

Winnipeg

8 study-area layers + 3 Canada-wide layers

6

Victoria

3 study-area layers + 3 Canada-wide layers

Live layers

4

AQHI, land cover, wildfire context, and the currently published flood and wetland overlays are delivered as live or live-published assets.

Snapshot layers

7

Most catalog entries are versioned ETL outputs published as stable map assets rather than live feeds.

Derived layers

3

Connectivity, impervious-surface, and planting-priority surfaces are composite analytical layers built on top of multiple upstream datasets.

Bulk export today

Tree DuckDB

The only direct bulk package exposed today is the tree inventory export. The broader ecology catalog is currently accessed through map layers, methodology pages, and platform interfaces.

Access Paths

Not every ecology dataset is delivered the same way. The public product is currently map-first, methodology-backed, and only partially packaged for direct bulk download.

Ecology map

Use the live map to inspect layers spatially, stack them, and compare conditions in context.

Open the map

Layer methodology

Every published layer has a methodology page covering sources, cadence, coverage, and caveats.

Tree inventory export

The current bulk download remains the packaged tree DuckDB export while the wider catalog is surfaced layer by layer.

API and MCP

Programmatic access lives in the platform interfaces for apps, scripts, and AI-assisted workflows.

Tree Inventory Audit Trail

The tree inventory still has the deepest field-level lineage documentation in the repo. It remains available here as a compact audit surface while the broader ecology catalog expands beyond the original urban-forest core.

Documented fields

20

Public tree fields with field-level transformation notes and implementation references.

City normalizations

6

Source-specific mapping contracts for the municipal inventory pipelines that feed the tree table.

Validation checks

6

Runtime checks, artifact QC, and manifest-to-code validation for the legacy tree pipeline.

What remains documented here

Field lineage, city normalization rules, and the public JSON contract for the tree inventory are still maintained. That documentation is now one audit surface within a larger ecology catalog rather than the organizing structure of this entire page.

Validation ledger

Legacy tree-pipeline audit checkpoints

3 ETL runtime checks

1 artifact QC checks

2 documentation validation checks

These checks remain tree-specific today. Wider ecology datasets already have per-layer methodology pages, and deeper lineage contracts can expand from there as more layers stabilize.
