Layer Methodology
Parks & Protected Areas
Protected and park landscapes used as a backbone for ecological corridor analysis.
SnapshotStudy areas
Map Role
Protected landscapes and park footprints that anchor local green networks.
What It Shows
This layer maps park and protected-area polygons near the study areas. It is both a standalone green-infrastructure layer and a core input to ecological-connectivity scoring.
Sources
- Canadian Protected and Conserved Areas Database (CPCAD)
Method
- 1.Query the live CPCAD ArcGIS service for study-area extents.
- 2.Normalize returned features into a shared polygon layer.
- 3.Publish the clipped result as GeoJSON for fast map rendering and downstream analysis.
Refresh Cadence
Snapshot ETL. Refresh when the CPCAD source or clipping workflow is rerun.
Coverage
Study-area park and protected-area footprints.
Caveats
- This layer emphasizes larger protected and park footprints, not every local greenspace or private parcel.
- Administrative protection and ecological quality are not the same thing.
