Layer Methodology

Parks & Protected Areas

Protected and park landscapes used as a backbone for ecological corridor analysis.

SnapshotStudy areas

Map Role

Protected landscapes and park footprints that anchor local green networks.

What It Shows

This layer maps park and protected-area polygons near the study areas. It is both a standalone green-infrastructure layer and a core input to ecological-connectivity scoring.

Sources

  • Canadian Protected and Conserved Areas Database (CPCAD)

Method

  1. 1.Query the live CPCAD ArcGIS service for study-area extents.
  2. 2.Normalize returned features into a shared polygon layer.
  3. 3.Publish the clipped result as GeoJSON for fast map rendering and downstream analysis.

Refresh Cadence

Snapshot ETL. Refresh when the CPCAD source or clipping workflow is rerun.

Coverage

Study-area park and protected-area footprints.

Caveats

  • This layer emphasizes larger protected and park footprints, not every local greenspace or private parcel.
  • Administrative protection and ecological quality are not the same thing.
